Maureen A.
Palmer
Elmira Heights: Age 71 passed away at home
on Monday, September 12, 2011, surrounded by her loving family, after a long,
courageous battle with cancer. Maureen was born in Elmira on August 30, 1940, a daughter of the
late Robert and Lucy (Pulaski) Collins. She is survived by her beloved husband
of 51 years, Jay E. Palmer; sons and daughters-in-law, Craig J. and Jennifer
Palmer of Elmira, with their children, Lauren, Caitlin, Sarah and Steven; Scott
R. and Theresa Palmer of Plant City FL, with their children, Eric, Tara and
Jenna; daughter and son-in-law, Karen P. and Scott Anglehart of Elmira Heights,
with their daughters, Anna and Olivia Hoyt and Margaret Anglehart; brother and
sister-in-law, Robert and Ellen Collins of Sayre PA; sister Donna O’Buckley of
Elmira; sister-in-law Alois Riker; brother-in-law Zane (Jean) Palmer, along
with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Maureen was a life long
resident of Elmira
Heights. She and Jay have
operated Palmer’s Hallmark in the Heights since 1977. Active in the community,
Maureen twice served as a board member with the Elmira
Heights School
District, worked in the Reading Lab and was in charge of the
tutoring program at Thomas
Edison High
School. Family
and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut
Streets, on Friday, September 16, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be held at St. Casimir’s Church on Saturday, September
17, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in
memory of Maureen to the TAE Class of 1958 Scholarship Fund, c/o Thomas Edison
High School, 2083 College Ave, Elmira Heights, NY 14903. Maureen’s family would
like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Joseph Navone, Priscilla Nicotra and the
staff at the Hematology Oncology Associates of C.N.Y. for the wonderful care
provided to Maureen for the last 11 years.
