Ostriche, Jr.
Age
66 of Corning, passed away suddenly on January
1, 2010 in Corning. Matt was born in Elmira on November 12, 1943 to the late
Mathew M. Sr. and Ruth Robinson Ostriche.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his infant sister
Sharon Ostriche, his beloved uncle William “Unk” Ostriche and his son James R.
Craven II. Matt is survived by his wife
Linda Granger Ostriche; brother William “Billy” Ostriche of Oklahoma; sister and brother-in-law Dawn and
Rick Altice of York Springs PA; brother and sister-in-law, Croydon and Nancy
Ostriche of York Springs. He is also
survived by his loving grandchildren, Mathew and Emily Craven of Corning; sisters-in-law
and brothers-in-law, Dale and Carolyn Granger, Sandra and Forrest Vanderpool,
Kay Roof, all of Elmira; along with several nieces and nephews. Matt attended schools in Elmira Heights
and Horseheads and graduated from Horseheads
High School. After high school Matt joined the Navy and
served from 1961 to 1964. He retired
from Westinghouse-Eaton Corp. in 2001 with 35 years of service. He was a member of the Elmira Heights
American Legion Post #154. Matt loved
the outdoors and was an avid reader. He
was loved and respected by his family and friends and will be dearly
missed. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W.
Water and Walnut Streets, on Monday, January 4, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00
p.m. A funeral service will be held at
the funeral home on Tuesday at 12:00 noon, with Chaplain Dave Knuppenburg
officiating. Committal prayers and
interment, with military honors, will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
