Leocadia H. Warakomski
“Lodzia”
Elmira: Age 96, passed away on Wednesday, June 8,
2011 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility.
Lodzia was a daughter of John and Catharine (Malanowski) Niekras. She was born in the family home on Magee St. where she
lived until the age of 95. Lodzia was
predeceased by her husband Joseph Warakomski in 1996. She was also predeceased by brothers and
sisters, John Niekras, Frank Niekras, Mary Liberatore, Helen Liberatore and
Cecelia Donaldson. Lodzia is survived by
sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph M. and Judy Warakomski of Erin, John E. and
Rose Warakomski of Skaneateles NY; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Douglas
Bauer of Elmira; sister Irene Resavage of Orchard Park NY; grandchildren,
Jennifer (Aarron) Baughman, Joanna Warakomski, David (Patricia) Bauer, Brian
Bauer, Diane Bauer, Todd (Michelle) Warakomski, Kirsten (Scott) Anthony and
Scott Warakomski; many great grandchildren, especially Monika, several
great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In earlier years Lodzia worked for Artistic Cards of Elmira. Her husband Joe had worked at Vic’s Diner on Madison Ave. and Church St. in Elmira. Lodzia and Joe bought the diner from Lodzia’s
family and operated the diner for over 30 years. The diner was moved to Horseheads and is
still in use today as Sullivan’s Diner.
Lodzia was a fantastic cook and baker. She was an avid reader. Family
and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut
Streets, on Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Monday,
June 13, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.
in St. Casimir’s Church. Committal
prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
The family will provide
