Judy Tapia

Elmira: Age 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Bethany Manor in Horseheads. Judy was born in Ecuador on February 26, 1923, the daughter of Luis and Marianna (Zabaleta) Valverde. She was predeceased by an infant son and son Mario Tapia in 2008. Judy is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Luis and Carol Tapia of Elmira, and Carlos and Marie Tapia of Fort Worth TX; daughter Suzanne Calabrese of Charlotte NC; grandchildren, Barrie Lynn (Emilio) Martinez, Melissa (Paul) Carr, Monica (Robert) Lolley, Louis (Denise) Calabrese and Judy Calabrese; and 13 great grandchildren. Judy and her family came to the United States from Ecuador in the mid 1960’s. They settled in Queens NY and Judy moved to the Elmira area in the late 1990’s. Judy always wanted to come to the United States; she appreciated life in America and really felt at home in her new country. Judy was a devout Catholic who attended daily mass when able. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church. Donations in Judy’s memory may be directed to Blessed Sacrament Parish, 604 Park Place, Elmira NY 14901.
