John Jerome O’Buckley
Elmira: Age 91, passed away March 1, 2011 surrounded
by his family. John was born in Lanesboro, Pennsylvania
to Donal Ambrose O’Buckley and Mary Francis Moltz. John grew up in Cortland
and attended Cortland
Schools and Cortland Normal. He enlisted in the U S Army in November 1940,
completed training at Camp Croft,
SC and was assigned to the 114th
infantry – Northern Combat Area Command.
John spent four years of World War II in the China Burma India (CBI)
Campaign with General Stilwell. He
received numerous awards, including a Bronze Star, the Air Medal and the combat
infantry medal. He served his country
bravely and with honor and left the U S Army as a Lt. Colonel. John was predeceased by his wife Mary
Elizabeth (Hogan), daughter Regina,
son John Jr., grandson Michael and great granddaughter Anjelika. Survivors include his sons, Kevin (Kathleen),
Dennis (Diane); daughters, Nancy (Bill) Pavkov, Michelle (Roy) Tucker and
Sharron O’Buckley; daughters-in-law, Donna Sheehan and Dede O’Buckley; brothers,
Gerald T., Francis (Bud), sisters, Theresa Donovan, Geraldine Alice Town, Kory
Morlin, grandchildren, Shawn (Nellie), Brian (Diane), Todd (Sondra), Jennifer
(Joe) Gotschall, Kevin (Coral), Megan (Kevin) Fitzgerald, Mary and Katherine
Tucker, and John J. III, great grand children, Ryan Patrick, Reilly Miles,
Molly Rose, Rianna, Brandon and Emma O’Buckley, and Anna Kathleen and Rory
Isabelle Fitzgerald, Madison and Matthew
Gotschall; along with several nieces, nephews and friends. John was a Doctor of Chiropractic and
co-owned Mary’s Grocery in Elmira,
NY. A
celebration of John’s life will be held on June 10, 2011 with a Mass of
Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, Elmira.
Committal prayers and military honors will follow at Woodlawn National
Cemetery.
