Hurley
Age
80, of Horseheads, departed this life Monday, February 8, 2010 at St. Joseph’s
Hospital. John was born December 11, 1929, son of Edward and Edna
(Mooney) Hurley. He is predeceased by his brothers, Edward, Richard, Robert, Leon
Hurley, and brother-in-law, and special
friend, Robert Dial. John is survived by brothers and
sister-in-law, Francis Hurley of Elmira, William and Marge Hurley of Winsted,
CT; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Noterfonzo of Saratoga Springs, NY,
Betty Hurley of Elmira, Mary Dial of Elmira Heights, Jean and George Lowman of
Elmira, Evelyn and Phillip Foster of Elmira; niece Edna Moyer; along with
numerous other nieces and nephews. John worked at Moretti’s Restaurant
for over 30 years before retiring in the mid 1980’s. He was an avid New
York Mets fan and loved to play the NYS
Lottery BINGO scratch off tickets. John was a quiet and unassuming
man who loved his family. Family
and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of Water and Walnut Sts., on Thursday, February 11, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to
6:00 p.m. A funeral service, officiated by Deacon George Welch, will
follow at 6:15 p.m. Interment will take place at St. Peter & Paul’s
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers John may be remembered with donations to
Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East
Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830.
John’s family would like to thank the staff at
Bethany Courtyards, Bethany Manor, Dr. Devlin, St. Joseph’s Hospital – D3, and
Southern Tier Hospice for all of the special care given to John. John
himself would have smiled and said, “Thank you sweethearts and may the good
Lord take a liking to you.”
