Josephine M. Caparulo
Embraced by her God in Heaven on Wednesday, October 4, 2011. Josephine was born on April 15, 1919 - the
daughter of Petrina (Bonjorno)
and Thomas Maimone in Groveland, New York. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph
and brother Stephen, two grandchildren: Peter and Aaron
Lockwood and beloved son-in-law Hank Lockwood.
She is survived by her sister, Rose (Harold) Gould; daughter Mary
Lockwood; son Joseph Caparulo; grandchildren: Graham Caparulo
(Andrea), Marcus Schimert,
Anya Schimert, Nathan Lockwood (Ana), Johanna Lent (Yancy),
Katherine Lupoli (Nick), and John Lockwood, great-grandchildren: Joseph Lockwood, Cassia Lockwood, Emma Lent,
Ethan Lent, Elliot Lent, Adrian Caparulo and Isabella
Rugiero. Josephine and her husband Joe opened Caparulo’s Variety Store (known today as Cappy’s) in Elmira
on December 16, 1946. Her entire life
was devoted to loving her family, caring for the sick and dying, sharing her
gift of hospitality with friends and community, offering sumptuous meals, giving
countless hours to her parish and
creating bonds of friendship and love that will forever endure. Her devotion to her faith – centered at St.
Patrick’s – was a true expression of “living the gospel” as she gave equal
importance to the sacred and social ministries.
Her charity, her caregving, her inspiring
spirit and smile remain in our hearts.
We will miss her beyond measure. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
St. Patrick’s Church on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers please send donations to
