James T. DeNunzio

65, of Elmira,
died unexpectedly on Friday, May 28, 2010 at home. Jim was born in Elmira, a son of the late James T. and
Marguerite (Monahan) DeNunzio. He was
preceded in death by his sister Patricia Marhefka and brother Daniel
DeNunzio. Jim is survived by his son and
daughter-in-law, James T. “Jamie” and Denise DeNunzio of Jupiter FL; daughter
and son-in-law, Erica M. and Kyle Elston of Elmira with their children, Jack
and Claire; daughters, Marcy B. DeNunzio, and Amy M. DeNunzio with her children
Hunter and Sarah Clark, all of Elmira; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and
Michael Barbieri of Elmira; brother Michael DeNunzio of Albany NY; aunt Marion
Roberts of Odessa; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jimmy, who ran DeNunzio’s Sausage in Elmira and was known as
“The Sausage King,” started in the business with DeNunzio’s Italian Grocery on
the corner of W. Second and Grove Streets in 1974. He opened Harry Reagan’s Tavern on Washington
Ave. in 1982 before moving on to operate a sausage stand for many years at the Carousel
Market at Eldridge Park. This led to Jim
going into the wholesale sausage business.
One of the highlights of the year for Jim, his family and the public was
the Italian Festival in Watkins Glen.
With the help of his family and friends, Jim would serve sausage and
pasta to the entire Finger Lakes
community. He loved to cook and was an
avid gardener. He enjoyed hunting and
fishing and took particular pleasure in a fishing trip taken to Alaska several years
ago. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W.
Water and Walnut Streets, on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00
p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A
funeral service will follow at 8:15 p.m.
