James Robert
Chely
“Bob”
Passed
away January 9, 2012. Bob, as he was
known his entire life, was born on January 30, 1921 in Elmira
and resided in Elmira
his entire life, except for his service time in the Army Air Corps. He was honorably
discharged in 1946. Bob retired as Director of Elmira Housing Authority in
1985. He was predeceased by his wife
Olga and daughter Mary. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, John and Darine
Chely of Boulder, CO,
with their son Merrick; Jim and Wendy Chely of Elmira. Bob and Olga were lifelong
communicants of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. They also devoted over 50 years helping
the Dominican Nuns on West Church
St. in Elmira.
Bob enjoyed hunting, but is mainly known
for playing golf, especially his putting prowess. There is no doubt that he
will be joining Dick, Ike, Jerry and Don on the first tee.
A Memorial Mass will be held
at a later date. Donations in Bob’s
memory may be made to the Dominican Monastery, 1310 W. Church St. Elmira,
NY 14905.
We would like to thank the staff of the 5th floor at St. Joseph’s Hospital for
the care our father received.
