Edward F.
Connelly
Horseheads: Age 87, formerly of Hillbrook Road, Elmira,
passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011 at St.
Joseph’s Hospital.
Ed was born August 22, 1923, in Elmira,
a son of Francis E. and Julia (O’Toole) Connelly. He is predeceased by his brother Thomas
Connelly. Ed is survived by his loving
wife Theresa Gourley Connelly with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of
marriage on June 2nd; children, with their families, Joseph E. and
Margaret Connelly of Bellvue WA with children, Bridget, Kelly, and Ryan; John
F. “Jack” and Marianne Connelly of Elmira with son Keegan; Michael T. and
Barbara Connelly of Horseheads with sons, Thomas and Christopher; Patricia M.
Connelly of Holden Beach NC with daughter Kathryn “Katy”; Ellen T. and Timothy
Wozniak of Pultneyville NY with sons, Michael and Scott; Mary Theresa and Dr.
Timothy O’Leary of Rochester with children, Patrick, Cecilia, Conor, and John;
and Eileen C. and David Windsor of Colorado.
Also surviving is sister-in-law Mary Rose Connelly of Lynchburg VA. Ed was a 1940 graduate of Elmira Catholic
High. He then continued his education at
Tri-State University in Angola IN. Ed put his college education on hold,
enlisting in the U S Navy during WWII.
He served his country proudly in the South Pacific on the submarine the
USS Trutta. Upon his discharge from the
Navy, Ed resumed his college education at Tri-State earning his B.S. degree in
Mechanical Engineering. Ed worked for
Corning, Inc. as an Engineering Manager, retiring after 35 years of
service. He was an active member of the
Submarine Veterans of WWII, a member of the Msgr. John J. Lee Division of the
Ancient Order of Hibernians, and a long time communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes
Church. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and
Walnut Sts., on Sunday, May 22, 2011 from 1:00
p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be held Monday, May 23, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s
Cemetery.
Officers and members of the
Ancient Order of Hibernians will meet at McInerny Funeral Home on Sunday at
