David L.
Wichtowski
Pine City: Age 69, passed away at his home, on Tuesday,
August 2, 2011, with his loving family by his side. David was born September 6, 1941 a son of the
late Walter A. and Evelyn (Hakes) Wichtowski.
He is also predeceased by his brother Arthur Wichtowski and
brothers-in-law, John and Joe Clune.
David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marianne Clune Wichtowski;
son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Melissa Wichtowski, with children
Andrew and Allyson; daughter Michelle A. Wichtowski; sister and brother-in-law,
Judith A. A’Hearn-Crossman and Bert Crossman; sister-in-law Carol Wichtowski,
all of Elmira; brother-in-law Paul F. Clune of Dallas TX;
several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his trusted and faithful dog
“Raven”. David was a proud U S Marine
Corps veteran, serving his country from 1958-1962. He started his career with NYS Corrections as
a Corrections Officer in 1966. While with state corrections David attended
night school at Elmira
College earning his
Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice in 1978.
He became a Corrections Counselor in the mid 1980’s and retired from the
Elmira Correctional Facility in August of 2000 with nearly 35 years of state
service. An avid outdoorsman, David
enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.
He also had a membership with The Downtown Health Club, working out
every day, up until the last few months.
David helped form the Southport Drainage Committee, to address issues
dealing with Seeley Creek. He was a
member of the Elmira Heights American Legion Post #154 and a long time
communicant of St. Mary’s Church. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral
Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on
Friday, August 5, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on
Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 10:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial
at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Elmira. Military honors will be held outside of the
church immediately following the mass.
Interment will be at St. Peter &
Paul’s Cemetery on Monday, August 8, 2011.
